Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why do you have this blog?

A: Several reasons: I’m interested in discussing my dream memories and lucid dream techniques with open-minded and knowledgeable others; I also wish to discuss various readings to share and gain new insight; I hope to obtain new interpretations of dream symbols and further my self knowledge. In short, I wish to explore the relationship between the inner world of my un/subconscious, and the outer world of the internet’s distributed consciousness. Finally, I wish to share, and contribute in general to the best of my ability.

Q: What is a bleam?

A: In short, I use the term bleam (etymology: blog + dream), to signify the fact that I primarily blog dream content. Hence, MyBleam. Interestingly, it seems that “bleam” is also an obscure technical (perhaps archaic) word meaning, “To transmit or send data”, which is rather fitting, since data from my subconscious is being transmitted to any in cyberspace who care to take notice…

Q: Why should I read this blog?

A: That is entirely up to you. …but I do hope that by sharing parts of my own quest for self-knowledge, others may be assisted in their own personal journeys in life.

Q: Can anyone comment?

A: Yes, absolutely! I hope to interact with a diverse group on this website. I welcome comments from all, as long as they are polite; comments that help me understand a particular dream or dream symbol are especially invited.

Q: How do I contact you privately?

A: You can email here: brian[ at]mybleam.com. I generally check email on a daily basis…

Q: How do you remember so many dreams?

A: I keep a blank piece of paper and a pen at my bedside, and write down (however illegibly at times!) anything I can remember as soon as I wake up, often times in the middle of the night. A few other things I’ve learned is to calm the mind upon awakening, and not immediately focus on goals and tasks. The mantra Raom Gaom (from Pritchard’s book on Astral Travel, see the reading page) also helps. Many other tips and strategies can also be found on several websites within the links page. Anyway, you’d be surprised at how much you can remember if you intend to do so…

Q: Why do you use initials instead of names?

A: My use of initials echo the literary conventions (primarily of the 18th and 19th centuries) regarding this practice. I simply seek to avoid being untactful or to draw attention to others who may not wish for their names to be posted here, and also to avoid unnecessary political attention or any perception that this is a “gossip” site. This does not mean that I am or will consider running for office in the foreseeable future. When I dream of “public figures” such as politicians, authors, or celebrities, whose names are routinely in the media, I will generally give the full name. …but visitors here may be as anonymous as they wish.
