Burning Implant

Last night I documented a few strange dreams… One of them took place within the Star Gate universe–I was part of the team, or perhaps just an observer.  Anyway, we came back from an alien planet with a chip implanted in our brains that gave us special powers.  We were able to fly, exhibit incredible strength, which was great… that is, until Carter screamed in intense agony because the chip inside her skull was becoming red-hot and cooking her from the inside out.  Gruesome!  It occurred to me in the dream that the chip must have been extremely hot because there were no pain sensors within the brain itself.

We did watch an episode with events somewhat similar to this several days ago.  The idea was that the alien devices would provide special powers that could be used to enhance a force of commandos to disable new technology being developed by The Evil Empire (aka Goa’uld).  In the episode the devices ultimately malfunctioned leaving the team in great danger.  I suppose this could be a warning to use only those abilities which have been earned through proper discipline rather than those acquired through means out of line with natural development.

Dream: Alien Invasion

Last night I dreamt that aliens were wanting to take over the world.  …and were doing so in a very military fashion.  I recall that I was involved somehow in the resistance.  This may be related to the capacity I seemed to be in as described in the previous dream…

One thing that stood out was that this dream was one that seemed to have a ’soundtrack’, in that I could hear music in my head as if it were actually being played.  Naturally, the music of this particular dream was none-too-pleasant.  It was ‘Mouth for War’, by the thrash metal band Pantera, and a song I haven’t heard in years.

I tend to listen to much more pleasant sounds these days…

Lucid Dream?: Alien Advice on Iraq

Well, I’ve been experimenting with the Mirror in the Cave technique over the last few nights with mixed success. Many times I would fall asleep about the time I would start descending the stairs or even earlier, as my mind would wander while in the woods. The best way I’ve found to combat this is to think of the dreamscape as reality, and distracting thoughts as impending sleep. So, I can then tell myself to *wake-up*, as this now implies an increased focus on the dream I intend…

Last night I had one of the more interesting experiences. I made it to the mirror, and soon after this, I seemed to be confronted with some sort of alien presence in the form of a bright white light. It(?) seemed to communicate to me that President Bush needs to focus on increasing family values in Iraq (thereby decreasing the emphasis on religiousity), perhaps be distributing “comfort kits”, that would contain books, clothes, and other such amenities of living. In this way, Iraqi family units would pull together and insurgent groups would have less influence in recruiting “martyrs”.

This was a strange experience, and I think it needs to be classified as a dream, and perhaps a lucid because this particular idea regarding the situation in Iraq had never occurred to me before, and I was *aware* of that fact while I was thinking (receiving?) it. Whether or not the ‘alien’ was a personification of my subconscious, or something else, I’ll probably never know…

Dream: Teaching with aliens?

Last night I recalled a couple strange dreams.  I was teaching a group of students, and we were creating some kind of online data base.  …but then I had to stop working with one of the kids who was from Texas.  He needed to leave, so the *aliens* would not take him… Odd.  Since aliens often represent the existence of a wider reality, I wonder if one of the meanings could be that I sometimes can overload my students with new ways of thinking about the world.  I’m sure I’m much more open-minded than just about anyone else my students are exposed to.  Even if I don’t teach any philosophy in the content of my classes, a lot of it is implicit in the perspective I bring to most subjects…

Dream Technique: Sleep Cycles

Even though MyBleam.com began at the beginning of this month, I have actually been systematically recording my dreams since July of this year, and unsystematically much longer than that. Over this period, I’ve noticed that the amount of dream content I can recall is directly proportional to both:

  • The amount of sleep that I obtained that particular night…
  • …and if the time I fell asleep is consistent with previous nights.

Clearly then, a very simple technique to increase dream recall is to obtain an adequate amount of sleep, and on a regular basis! The more sleep you get, the more sleep cycles will complete with normal time intervals.  This is pretty commonly known; for instance, it is discussed at Dreamviews, and emphasized in books by Stephen LaBerge, and many others… Still, there is no substitute for direct experience in understanding dream phenomena.  I also think that the consistency of the time of sleeping could be important in terms of matching biorhythms to sleep cycles; I’ll have to do more research on this point at a later time.

In any case, last night I did NOT get enough sleep, NOR did I fall asleep at a time consistent with previous nights. Therefore, I recalled very little dream material! Surprise!

In the one dream I did remember, I was coding HTML in a futuristic setting. Suddenly, everything stopped working, and I could not discover why. At this point “spiritual aliens” appeared, took what they wanted from my project, and then left me befuddled…

For what it’s worth, I’ve also noticed that one’s digestion does not function as well under these conditions, probably for reasons related to disrupted biorhythms…
