Resource: Brainwave Generator

Lately I’ve been working with *the brainwave generator*, a very user-friendly and robust program that allows you to manipulate binaural beat frequencies. (It is one of the resources given in the links page of this site.) The trial download is free, and although you don’t get access to the full library without payment, you can customize for yourself quite easily and it is fully functional in this respect.

Binaural beats utilize the frequency following effect to manipulate brainwaves (commonly referred to delta, theta, alpha and beta) to the frequency corresponding to the ‘beats’ of the tone you’re listening to. By doing so, you can increase (or decrease) relaxation, sleep, or attention and even more esoteric phenomena related to consciousness (e.g., oobe). A good faq is given here, and there’s a lot of other information available elsewhere, so I won’t belabor the issue…

Some personal experimentation will be desired, but there are lots of resources available that correlate specific brainwave frequencies with various states of consciousness. This list provides quite a few diverse and interesting potential effects…

I used to experiment with this program quite a bit, but recently took it up for one simple purpose: to increase states of meditation and relaxation when desired. I’ve found that a 2-minute oscillating beat between 1.5 and 4 hz, with a secondary tone at 10 hz is *extremely* effective…

  1. I would be very interested in experimenting with your beat during meditation. Could you post your file?

I have tried the BWGen in the past, but most of the beats either do nothing for me, or make me very uneasy.

  2. Hi Myrmior,

Thanks for posting… Here are two binaural beat tracks I’ve been using lately (about 45mb). Both are 50 minutes in duration with bb frequencies decending from 15 hz in the first 5 minutes to 10 hz and 4 hz in the first track and 10 and 1.5 hz in the second track.

Later on, I may create a files page to store more tracks like these as well as additional photography and art work…

BTW, there are several other programs besides the BWG that can be used to create personalized binaural beat tracks (such as Gnaural), and I use these as well…

  3. Thank you, Brian.

Just out of curiosity; Do you use meditation to simply clear your mind, or do you use it as a gateway to trance states?

I think we have a lot in common (INTP included), and I could probably gain some insight from listening to some of your more in-depth experiences. If nothing else, I might find good starting points on paths you have already taken.

  4. My pleasure, Myrmior…

My main motivations for binaural beat tracks is personal experimentation–to enter various mental states and observe the effects as a tool to self-discovery. When I wish to clear my mind, I’ve found mantras to be most effective…

INTPs are a strange species. I look forward to learning from your experiences as well…
