Dream: Teaching in Russia

Last night I dreamt that I wanted to go to Russia to teach there. I have no idea why, but the paperwork that I was working on was quite futuristic–perhaps more Star Trek influence? …although there was no *extra-terrestrial* content to the dream… Teaching in foreign/exotic places has interested me in the past, and I may decide to teach English in China next academic year, depending on how things go….

I wonder why I dreamt of Russia though–the second time in the last few days. I’m certainly not thinking of actually going there any time soon. I would like to learn Russian at some point though…. Strange…

  1. Why don’t you teach in Russia after you teach in China? I am sure it would be immensely rewarding and it would probably be a lot of fun.

  2. Hmmm… Well, I hadn’t really considered that. Of course, if Mr. Putin has his way, we’ll have a new cold war on our hands before too long, and Russia will become inaccessible to Americans….

  3. That is only if Putin’s plans to get a lame duck in office and then get re-elected work… If you desire to teach and live in Russia, you should.

I think it is interesting that we have both had dreams about Russia over the last month. One interpretations is that Russia symbolizes the eventual freedom to express one’s individuality.

Important questions to ask yourself might be: What has been going on lately that you do not feel that you have been able to express your individuality? Have people in your life stifled your individuality? Do you desire to seperate yourself from others in order to take charge of creating a more seperate you?

  4. Well, I’m not even sure if I’ll be visiting China yet. After that, we’ll see. Staying in Russia for an extended period is an intriguing idea though…

I would be careful before reading too much into the individuality, etc. aspect to the dream (via Russia symbology), as there isn’t much other evidence in either dream to support that.
